The IL2301-B901-0000 is a coupler box unit produced by Beckhoff for the IL Coupler Box Units series. It connects field-level sensors and actuators with higher-level controls, allowing decentralized installation directly on machinery and conveyors where cabinet space is limited. By hosting both input and output channels in a sealed enclosure, the device streamlines wiring and simplifies setup in industrial automation cells.
The unit communicates over an Ethernet TCP/IP bus and also supports Fast Modbus TCP messaging, so it can exchange data with PLCs over standard networks through a single M12 D-coded fieldbus connector. All internal logic is powered from a 24 VDC control rail that enters through a dedicated four-pin M8 power connection, while a second M8 socket passes supply voltage downstream to additional modules. Four discrete sensors can be wired to the 4 digital inputs, and four actuators can be connected to the 4 digital outputs. The channels draw no more than 0.5 A of control current, helping protect the upstream power supply from an overload. Signal terminations use bolted M8 plugs that maintain contact under vibration, and the PA6 housing is fully potted with polyurethane to resist moisture and shock. Its ingress protection allows the assembly to operate in washdown zones around packaging or food-processing equipment.
Additional IP-Link extension modules can be attached through the integrated backplane interface. The architecture supports up to 120 stations without requiring extra switches or hubs, providing room for distributed devices across larger machines. A process image of 512 bytes in and 512 bytes out is mapped to the controller, allowing high-density field devices to be scanned in a single cycle. The enclosure has an IP65/IP66/IP67 rating, and gasketed seals run along the chain when compatible expansion modules are installed. The durable housing, bolted connectors, and pass-through power connections support distributed sensing and actuation in wet, dusty, or mobile machinery.
