The IE3202-0000 is a remote I/O extension box produced by Beckhoff within the IE Extension Box Units series. It provides resistance-based temperature acquisition directly on the machine, allowing PT and Ni sensors to be connected without a control-cabinet breakout. By forwarding preconditioned measurement values to higher-level EtherCAT or other fieldbus couplers, the unit streamlines thermal monitoring tasks in distributed industrial automation layouts.

Each analog channel is isolated from control logic by 500 V, and the fieldbus side is also galvanically separated, supporting deterministic communication even in noisy environments. All signal and supply leads plug into a rugged M12 screw-in connector system, while power is routed through an M8 feed-through pair for daisy-chain wiring. The module converts the sensor resistance to a digital word within 260 ms; this cycle time aligns with typical temperature loop demands. Environmental sealing meets IP65/IP66/IP67, so the housing tolerates dust, low-pressure water jets, and temporary immersion. Temperature resolution is fixed at 0.1 °C per digit, giving adequate granularity for most process-heat or HVAC tasks without overloading the network with excessive data.

Fault states are shown by Error LEDs on the faceplate, making wiring or sensor issues easier to identify without external tools. The four inputs are organized as 4 analog inputs, and each is represented in the controller by a 4 × 16-bit process image segment for straightforward PLC mapping. Because the installation orientation is Variable, the box can be mounted flat on a machine bed or vertically on a strut, and selectable input filters in four versions help damp application-specific noise. Sensor excitation is drawn from the load-voltage rail US, and both 2-wire and 4-wire connections are accepted, allowing flexibility when wiring PT100, PT200, PT500, PT1000, Ni100, Ni120, or Ni1000 elements.
