Product Description:
The IE3102-0000 is an analog input extension box produced by Beckhoff within the IE Extension Box Units series. It expands an EtherCAT network with four voltage-measuring channels so additional transducers or process sensors can be connected to a controller without wiring individual I/O cards inside the cabinet. In a distributed automation line, the module mounts directly on machinery; its M12 screw-in connectors and variable installation position allow placement near sensors, reducing cable runs and preserving signal quality.
This unit offers 4 differential inputs, each accepting signals in the range of ±10 V. A differential topology with a common internal ground minimizes noise picked up along the shielded leads. Conversion resolution is 15 Bit + Sign, giving 1 part in 32,768 for precise digitization before the values are transferred as a 4 × 16-bit process image to the PLC. Each channel is isolated from the logic domain by 500 V, preventing ground loops when sensors share separate power rails. Accuracy is maintained within ±0.3% FS, which is the maximum total error from gain, offset, and linearity over the full span. The M12 screw-in connector carries the analog lines, while a 4-pin M8 feed furnishes field power to the electronics.
Input conditioning is selectable through 10 filter modes, allowing a balance between response time and noise suppression. Common-mode rejection remains effective up to 35 V, so signals referenced several volts above or below module ground stay within the linear range. Digitized data exit toward the network through a downstream port with a 1 x M8, 4-Pin connection, enabling daisy-chain expansion with additional IP67 I/O boxes. External sensors can be energized directly from the module, and their supply voltage must stay under 30 VDC. The design retains one ground reference for all inputs, and the power feed as well as the data connectors share the same compact M8 format for uniform cabling.
