Product Description:
The IE2808-0001 is an extension I/O box produced by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. It attaches to an IP20 or IP67 field segment and provides additional digital channels to a higher-level EtherCAT Coupler through Beckhoff’s IP-Link interface. In automated machinery, this compact box distributes switched 24 V outputs close to actuators, reducing cabinet wiring length and installation time. Its decentralized layout allows output connections to be placed near valves, contactors, lamps, and other field devices rather than routed individually from a control cabinet.
The module operates from a supply of 24 V DC, and each of its eight output channels can deliver up to 0.5 A of load current to resistive, inductive, or lamp loads. An internal electronic limiter keeps the total load below 4 A, while the output drivers have a quiescent current draw of 5 mA per channel. If a fault causes the current to exceed the built-in trip value of 1.5 A, the affected channel shuts down and can be restored through the manual or automatic error-reset mode. Sixteen output bits and sixteen input bits are mapped into the process image, while an optional control and status byte can be enabled for channel diagnostics. IP-Link provides fieldbus isolation so ground shifts do not disrupt backplane communication. The circuitry supports variable installation positions without derating, and UNC-thread accessories provide flexible mounting options.
A single M8 female 4-pole socket passes switched power downstream to additional devices, while the upstream supply enters through a single M8 male 4-pole plug to maintain consistent trunk cabling. Actuator leads exit through a 25-pin D-Sub socket, allowing quick connection of multicore harnesses. The module includes integrated reverse-polarity protection, which prevents accidental supply reversal from damaging the output drivers. The housing can be secured in any orientation, allowing the module to fit within restricted machine spaces. Its connector arrangement supports compact placement on fixed machine sections or moving carriages without requiring individual terminal connections for every output channel.
