Product Description:
The IE2302 distributed I/O module is produced by Beckhoff and belongs to the IE Extension Box Units series. It is a compact, field-mountable block that extends digital sensing and actuation into harsh machine locations while remaining linked to an upstream EtherCAT coupler. In industrial automation, the unit collects discrete signals from proximity switches or photoelectric sensors and drives solenoids or indicator lamps, allowing control systems to shorten wiring runs and separate diagnostic functions.
Each channel group is configured with four inputs and four outputs, represented by a process image of 4 input bits and 4 output bits that the PLC refreshes during every cycle. The input side draws only 6 mA per point and passes signals through a hardware debounce window of 3.0 ms, meeting the EN 61131-2 Type 2 requirement for reliable state detection. Output drivers require a load current of 20 mA per channel for their internal circuitry and can switch loads of up to 0.5 A per channel through the M12 screw-in sockets. The housing carries an IP65/IP66/IP67 rating, protecting the electronics against dust, water jets, and temporary immersion when the box is installed directly on conveyors or tooling stations.
Supply power is routed through one 4-pin M8 connector, and the switching transistors are designed for nominal operation at 24 VDC. Reverse-polarity protection helps prevent damage caused by incorrect supply wiring. Short-circuit currents of up to 1.5 A are cleared internally, isolating the faulty load while allowing the other channels to remain operational. A dedicated sensor supply supports three-wire devices, and the flexible installation position allows the block to be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted without derating. Its load-current consumption model supports power budgeting while maintaining deterministic signal timing within the EtherCAT cycle.
