Product Description:
The IE2022-0000 is an IP67 digital output extension box produced by Beckhoff within the IE Extension Box Units series. Designed for direct installation in machine environments, the module distributes switched supply power to field devices under the control of a higher-level coupler. Relocating the I/O points from the control cabinet to the equipment frame shortens wiring runs and simplifies industrial automation layouts while the sealed housing protects internal electronics from dust and water.
The module operates from a nominal supply of 24 VDC. Its driver section maps to 8 bits in the controller’s process image, corresponding to eight discrete channels. Each channel can source up to 2.0 A, while the combined load must remain below 4 A. The control logic draws only 30 mA per channel, leaving most of the available supply current for connected field loads. The outputs do not have channel or interchannel isolation, so they share a common return. Galvanic separation between the control fieldbus and the output power domain helps limit electrical interference on network lines. An internal electronic fuse protects the module and connected equipment against excessive current caused by a short circuit.
Field wiring includes one 4-pin M8 socket that passes the EtherCAT or IO-Link signal downstream, while load power enters through a separate 4-pin M8 connector. Each output leaves the housing through an M12 screw-in port, providing a secure connection and strain relief for actuator wiring. Sensors powered by the module can draw up to 0.5 A per channel, and the electronic fuse trips at 4.0 A to interrupt short-circuit current before damage occurs. The extension box can be mounted in any orientation, allowing it to fit on machine frames, trays, and other available surfaces. Its IP67 enclosure supports installation near field devices where moisture, dust, vibration, and routine machine operation would make an unsealed I/O module unsuitable.
