Product Description:
The IE2002 digital output module is produced by Beckhoff as part of the IE Extension Box Units series. This block-style I/O device brings 24 V switching directly onto the machine, allowing controllers to place distributed outputs near actuators without using a control cabinet. Its sealed housing protects the internal electronics from dust and water. Compact M8 connections accommodate field and supply wiring so that loads can be driven close to the process. The distributed design also reduces the length of individual actuator cables in machinery with widely separated loads.
The module operates from a nominal control voltage of 24 VDC. Its eight discrete outputs occupy 8 bits in the PLC process image, allowing each output state to be controlled individually. Each channel can source up to 0.5 A, while the electronics draw only 20 mA per channel. Short-circuit current is limited to 1.5 A, and the affected circuit recovers automatically after the fault is removed. The outputs are short-circuit-proof and support resistive, inductive, and lamp loads. Galvanic isolation separates the control and fieldbus domains from the load side, helping prevent load-side disturbances from reaching the communication circuitry. The protected input stage also guards against reverse supply polarity.
The overmolded housing carries IP65, IP66, and IP67 protection ratings, allowing operation in demanding locations exposed to dust, water, or washdown conditions. It may be mounted in any installation position, which provides flexibility when available machine space is limited. Field wiring can be daisy-chained through a downstream interface with one 4-pin M8 socket for expansion to another device. The upstream power feed uses one 4-pin M8 connector to supply the module and its connected loads. Integrated LED status indicators display the operating state of individual channels, making output activity and faults visible directly at the module. The compact connector arrangement supports organized cable routing around machine frames, actuator groups, and other distributed equipment.
