The IE2001-0000 is a decentralized output extension box manufactured by Beckhoff within the IE Extension Box Units series. Intended for mounting directly on the machine frame, the unit supplies 24-volt switching signals to field actuators while maintaining galvanic separation from the higher-level bus coupler. It expands digital output capacity at the process side, shortening cable runs and simplifying installation in distributed control architectures. A cast-metal housing protects the electronics when exposed to oils, chips, and vibration.

Each of the eight channels operates from a regulated 24 VDC supply, and the block provides 8 outputs that are individually short-circuit monitored. A maximum load of 0.5 A per channel can be driven, while continuous draw is limited to 20 mA per channel for the internal logic. The enclosure carries an IP65/IP66/IP67 rating, so it resists dust ingress and high-pressure water during washdown. Variable installation position allows horizontal or vertical mounting, and the design includes control-to-fieldbus isolation to help prevent ground loops between cabinet electronics and remote tooling. Load types may be ohmic, inductive, or lamp loads, and the module remains short-circuit-proof through an electronic cutoff that resets automatically after fault clearance.

Field wiring is completed through the M8 screw-in sockets, and upstream power is bridged via one M8 four-pin plug and a matching four-pin socket for daisy-chain layouts. Under fault conditions, the output stage limits current to 1.5 A, and a separate sensor supply allows proximity switches to share the same connector. Built-in reverse polarity protection guards the electronics during connection, while channel LEDs give immediate status feedback. The cyclic data exchange occupies an 8-bit process image, allowing the PLC to address every output individually without extra code.
