Product Description:
The IE2000 is an extension box unit produced by Beckhoff for the IE Extension Box Units series. It functions as a distributed output node that places machine-level wiring close to actuators, allowing a central PLC to issue on-and-off commands without long cable runs or additional enclosures. The module draws power from a common industrial control supply and mounts directly on machinery where limited space and demanding installation conditions favor compact, sealed I/O blocks. Its distributed design shortens wiring between the output electronics and connected devices such as pneumatic valves, contactors, and indicator lamps.
The output stage operates at a nominal voltage of 24 VDC, and each channel can source up to 0.5 A to drive a suitable connected load. The module provides eight output channels, and the channels use digital switching to alternate between logical high and low states. The control bus and driver electronics have control-to-fieldbus isolation, which reduces the possibility of electrical noise or fault current returning to the CPU. Channel-to-control and interchannel paths remain galvanically common, allowing the output electronics to fit within the narrow housing. The 8 mm snap-on enclosure simplifies mounting in confined machine areas. An M8 four-pin plug supplies power, while an M8 four-pin socket supports downstream daisy-chain connections using standardized field cabling.
Built-in reverse-polarity protection blocks current if the supply wiring is connected backward, helping prevent damage to the electronics. The short-circuit-proof output drivers shut down an affected path when the connected load develops an electrical short. Each output has a dedicated LED status indicator, allowing its switching state to be checked without separate test instruments. The unit sends a process image with eight output bits to the controller, providing one command bit for every channel while keeping communication overhead low. This bit arrangement allows the PLC program to address the connected loads individually. The compact snap-on design and downstream connection support orderly installation when several field modules are positioned along the same machine section.
