The IE1001-0000 digital input extension box is produced by Beckhoff within the IE Extension Box Units series. The compact housing is designed for direct machine mounting, allowing field devices to be wired locally instead of inside a cabinet. By aggregating discrete sensor states and forwarding them to a controller, the unit streamlines decentralized signal collection in automated assembly lines, packaging equipment, and material-handling stations.
The module accepts a nominal control supply of 24 VDC, matching common sensor power rails in factory cells. Each input draws only 6 mA, so eight points can be monitored without overloading light-duty proximity switches fed from the same line. A built-in low-pass filter of 3.0 ms suppresses contact bounce and short disturbances before the signal reaches the controller image. Conformance with EN 61131-2 Type 2 ensures that the channels tolerate short-term wiring faults and support PNP sensors. The unit provides 8 digital inputs through an M8 screw-in header, and the control voltage on that connector also feeds the internal sensor supply.
