The Beckhoff FM3312-B310-1010 is one of the models of the thermocouple module of the FM thermocouplers series designed for industrial automation systems in need of highly accurate temperature control. It comes with 12 channels for thermocouples and interfaces to the devices via the PROFIBUS DP fieldbus with a maximum data transfer of up to 12 Mbaud. The module provides durability as well as efficiency with measurement uncertainty less than standard ±0.5% full scale value thus making it suitable in high precision applications.

The FM3312-B310-1010 has been designed to work with type J, KThermocouples, and mV as input. For type J thermocouples, the range is from -10°C to +900°C while for type K thermocouples, the temperature range is -100°C to + 1370°C. This means it has wide application in temperature measurements. The module itself has a resolution of 0.1 °C/digit and the conversion time is about 250 ms which are acceptable conditions for efficient data obtaining.

For the fieldbus, the module has a DIN45322 6 pin screw type connector while a Han24E industrial plug-in connector is used for the thermocouples. The latter accepts 2 wire connections. Furthermore, it is also necessary to state that the module has configurable input filters in number of 5 variations which can be helpful in adaptation of these modules to meet signal noise requirements. The FM3312-B310-1010 module receives a power supply of 24 VDC, with a normal current of 90 mA and a maximum of 120mA. That's about normal in most devices. A module's bit image in the process image is 4 x 16-bit data plus an optional 4 x 8-bit control/status data, enhancing its use in the automation system.
