Product Description:
The FM3312-B110-1210 thermocouple input terminal is produced by Beckhoff within the FM Thermocouplers series. The module converts low-level millivolt signals from multiple temperature probes into digital words that a controller can process over EtherCAT. By concentrating many temperature channels in a sealed I/O block, it simplifies cabinet layouts and supports decentralized installation. The unit is intended for mounting directly on machinery, so it tolerates dust, moisture, and vibration while delivering accurate, time-synchronous temperature data to the automation system.
The module provides 12 differential inputs, each calibrated for Type J thermocouples. An internal cold-junction sensor compensates for terminal temperature and removes the need for external reference points. Data is moved across the plant network through EtherCAT, and the physical link uses dual 2 x M12, 4-pin D-coded connectors. Every channel presents a typical input resistance of 2400 Ω, which helps minimize loading on delicate sensor circuits, and digitization occurs at 0.1 °C per digit for precise supervision of slow-changing thermal processes. Hard-gold contact plating resists oxidation, and the two-wire direct connection scheme keeps wiring straightforward on densely populated panels. Locating the terminal near the sensing point can also help reduce noise pickup in the measurement path.
The block operates from 24 V DC; the electronics draw 120 mA during normal operation and rise to 150 mA at startup. Its cast enclosure measures 150 × 52 × 129 mm and uses Housing Type B, while sealed joints support an IP65 enclosure rating so an additional cabinet is not required. Sensor leads can be routed up to 30 m without repeaters, supported by the shielded field wiring arrangement. The housing is compact enough for exposed mounting positions near heaters, molds, and other process areas. Hard-gold contacts also help maintain stable electrical continuity during long-term use in vibrating equipment.
