The Beckhoff EPP6002-0002 is a multifunctional external communication expansion module belonging to the EPP EtherCAT P Box Series that is rugged and hence is used for the integration of serial end devices. It has the ability to support the RS232, RS485 as well as the RS422 interfaces making it more application specific as per the user’s needs. The module is designed to accommodate two channels of data transmission which are sufficient regardless of the industrial purpose to which the communications is put.
The EPP6002-0002 incorporates two P-coded shielded M8 bus connectors and applies EtherCAT protocol to communicate within high-speed networks. A wide range of data transmission speed (300-115200bps) together with baud rate designation (9600 bps, 8, N, 1) pre-set as default can be easily configured. It has TxD and RxD channels to enable full duplex communication and even as the cable runs up to 15 meters for RS232, it is also possible to keep up that running distance of 1000 meters for RS422/RS485.
The module has internal mechanical protections as per IP 65, IP66 and IP67, implying that it is immune to dust and moisture as well as rugged use in an industrial setting. The unit expects 24 volts DC supply voltage nominal to (-15 % + 20%) while the average current consumption is 100 Ma. If required, it can also provide +5 V @ 20 mA to power the sensors. The use of 864 byte data receiving buffers and 128 byte data transmitting buffers in the EPP6002-0002 allows efficient data processing and prevents or shortens the waiting of data transmission. The weight of the module is about 165 grams and as such can be accommodated in small spaces.
