Product Description:

The EPP3184-0002 is a remote I/O module produced by Beckhoff within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. Designed for field-mount installation, the unit collects voltage-based process signals and forwards them over a combined EtherCAT and power line. By integrating measurement and communication in a sealed housing, the module streamlines distributed analog acquisition in industrial automation systems that use compact, plug-and-play nodes.

The module provides 4 single-ended analog inputs, enabling simultaneous monitoring of multiple sensors on one node. Conversion takes place at a 16-bit resolution, so small fluctuations remain visible to the controller. Each channel tolerates a 35 V common-mode voltage, permitting connection to sources that sit several volts above or below logic ground. An internal filter limits bandwidth to 5 kHz, reducing higher-frequency noise without affecting normal process dynamics. Communication and power share the bus through 2 x M8 P-coded EtherCAT P sockets, which reduces the number of cables needed on the machine. Operating power for the acquisition front end is supplied on the Up circuit at 24 VDC, giving the module the voltage needed for full-scale input swing while keeping dissipation low.

Signal conductors terminate on four M12 plugs, and deterministic timing is maintained because the device supports distributed clocks. The housing is molded from PA6 polyamide, a material that resists oils and vibration commonly found on plant floors. Its overall size is 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, allowing the box to fit alongside other modules on narrow cable trays. The Up rail can forward up to 3 A downstream to power auxiliary sensors, while the logic electronics draw only 100 mA from the isolated Us rail. Current on the Us rail is summed internally and limited to prevent overload of the master supply when several modules are daisy-chained in a line topology.
