Product Description:

Beckhoff's EPP2816-0010 is an EtherCAT P I/O module from the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. It combines data and 24 V power in one line so it can be installed directly on conveyor frames, tooling fixtures, or compact robotic end stations. By offering sixteen switchable outputs in a sealed housing, the unit supplies localized actuation points while minimizing the length of traditional control cabling in industrial automation systems. That design simplifies retrofits and speeds maintenance.

The module is powered by a control supply of 24 VDC. In normal operation, it draws only 100 mA from this rail, leaving ample capacity for other nodes on the branch. Internally, the logic circuits and status LEDs share a combined control current limit of 3 A, which helps protect upstream power supplies from overload. Network and energy are delivered through the EtherCAT P interface, which uses two M8 sockets with 4-pin, P-coded, shielded connectors. With these hybrid plugs, data, auxiliary voltage, and protective earth can traverse a single trunk up to 30 m long without additional distribution boxes. The device supports EtherCAT Distributed Clocks, so output switching remains synchronized to network time within sub-microsecond tolerances.

Each of the sixteen outputs switches field loads at up to 0.5 A per channel, while the aggregate load must stay below 3.0 A. Transient shorts are detected quickly, and the channel current is electronically limited to 1.5 A per channel with status reported to the host controller. The outputs operate from the peripheral supply rail and can handle ohmic, inductive, and lamp loads. Energy is delivered through two D-sub 9-pin sockets that simplify multi-core cabling to valve islands. A molded enclosure and fully encapsulated electronics provide protection to IP65, IP66, IP67 for direct machine mounting.
