Product Description:

The EPP2624-0002 is a relay output module produced by Beckhoff within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. The unit extends EtherCAT P networks with four isolated relay channels that can switch low-level or auxiliary loads directly at the machine frame. By combining power and communication on a single hybrid cable, it offers decentralized control of actuators such as valves, contactors, or signaling devices in industrial automation cells, and it supports distributed I/O placement close to the loads being switched.

Control power is supplied through the EtherCAT P line. The Up auxiliary circuit can supply up to 3 A at the module terminals, while the Us logic rail draws only 100 mA for the internal electronics. Both rails operate at a common level of 24 VDC, which simplifies field wiring. Bus and power are passed through 2 x M8 sockets, 4-pin, P-coded, shielded, and this interface supports cable runs up to 30 m without repeaters. The four relay outputs are routed through 4 x M12 sockets, allowing preassembled sensor-actuator cables to be connected without tools. Each channel uses a normally open relay contact that is potential-free with respect to the supply, so the switched circuit can be referenced independently from the EtherCAT P ground. The module also accepts a minimum load of 10 µA at 10 mVDC, which supports sensitive signaling lines as well as heavier loads.

During operation, each relay can carry up to 0.5 AAC / 2 ADC and can withstand a maximum of 25 VAC / 30 VDC across its terminals. Electrical durability is rated for 1 × 10^5 cycles, while the internal mechanism is rated for 1 × 10^8 cycles, so contact wear usually limits service life before the armature does. These values allow the four outputs to switch inductive or resistive field devices reliably within a distributed architecture.

Internal Product Review

  • ‘‘The EPP2624-0002 is a Beckhoff EtherCAT P Box module with 4 relay outputs and potential-free make contacts. Performance is well suited for distributed machine I/O, with 24 VDC auxiliary voltage and shielded 4-pin P-coded M8 EtherCAT P connections. Mechanical service life of 1 x 10^8 cycles is a standout advantage for repetitive switching duty.’’
