The EPP2339-0021 is a distributed I/O device produced by Beckhoff within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. Designed for mounting directly on machinery, the module combines 24 VDC power and high-speed EtherCAT communication through a single hybrid bus, simplifying wiring in automation cells. It offers sixteen configurable digital channels that can be used as inputs or outputs, allowing sensors and actuators to connect at the point of use while maintaining time-deterministic data exchange with the controller. Its fully potted housing resists vibration and moisture common on the factory floor.

Two EtherCAT P ports use 2 x M8 sockets, 4-pin, P-coded, shielded connectors, allowing the box to be inserted anywhere along the network trunk. The permissible drop line can extend up to 30 m, providing flexibility for machine layouts. Internally, the module has 16 digital channels and the same number of M8 signal sockets, so field devices can be cabled without terminal strips. Each input follows Type 3 requirements of EN 61131-2 and draws only 6 mA at 24 VDC, while a 3 ms filter suppresses contact bounce. When a channel is configured as an output, it responds with a switch-on delay of 60 µs and releases in 300 µs. The logic section is powered from the Up rail, which is held at 24 VDC and draws 20 mA.

For output duties, the power rail Us supplies the driver stage at 24 VDC, while the module itself draws 100 mA for internal circuitry. Each channel can source up to 0.5 A per channel to solenoids, lamps, or pilot valves, and the aggregate load must remain within 3.0 A total. A fold-back current limit engages at 1.5 A per channel to curb wiring faults or stalled loads. An auxiliary sensor feed delivers 0.5 A so proximity switches and encoders can share the same connector set without extra power supplies.
