Product Description:

The EPP2338-0002 is an eight-channel digital I/O box produced by Beckhoff within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. Designed for machine-mount installation, the unit combines signal forwarding and 24 VDC power on a single EtherCAT P line, letting I/O be distributed precisely where sensors and actuators are located. It serves as a compact field module that converts the EtherCAT protocol into discrete inputs and high-side switches, simplifying cabinet wiring in industrial automation cells.

For data acquisition, the module offers 8 digital channels, each selectable as input or output through the TwinCAT configuration. Field devices tie in through the 4 x M12 socket signal connectors, a format that supports quick-connect push-pull wiring and positive-locking in harsh environments. Upstream communication and power arrive on two dedicated EtherCAT interfaces; each interface is a 2 x M8 socket, 4-pin, P-coded arrangement that carries both 24 VDC supply rails and the real-time bus signals. When configured as an input, every channel draws only 6 mA at 24 VDC, and the internal circuitry filters bouncing contacts with a 10 µs hardware debounce. As outputs, channels deliver up to 0.5 A per channel, allowing direct driving of 24 VDC solenoids or relays without external amplifiers.

Power budgeting across the box is handled collectively, and the eight outputs may draw a combined 3.0 A before the device limits further activation. During fault clearing, the driver stage can endure 1.5 A per channel briefly, giving sensors time to trip protective fuses. Both Us control voltage and Up load voltage are held at 24 VDC, so a single feed simplifies daisy-chain layouts. Segments can be spaced up to 30 m between nodes, and the housing depth remains only 26.5 mm, supporting installation in tight machine recesses.
