Beckhoff’s EPP2316-0003 is an IP20-rated EtherCAT P box module within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series that consolidates digital I/O and power on a single four-wire network. It mounts directly on machinery and delivers distributed signal collection or actuation for industrial automation cells that need compact, pluggable field modules. Two four-pin EtherCAT P sockets handle both communication and 24 V peripheral power, minimizing cabling overhead.

The unit runs on a nominal supply of 24 VDC and presents eight IEC 61131-2 Type 3 input channels; each channel draws only 6 mA at 24 V and is routed through shielded, P-coded M8 ports. Eight output channels are also provided, and each is rated for a maximum continuous load of 0.5 A maximum, while a collective limit of 3.0 A maximum protects the device’s power distribution. Input functionality is filtered to EN-compliant logic levels, and output stages conform to the same protection class. The module accepts up to 8 discrete inputs and delivers 8 discrete sourcing outputs through dedicated plug-in ZS2001 spring terminals, and overall wiring can be extended 30 m without repeaters. For cabinet-free mounting, the housing carries an IP20 enclosure rating, and short-circuit monitoring automatically removes power when thresholds are exceeded.

Signal timing is deterministic: the front-end filter rejects pulses shorter than 10 µs, typical turn-on time is 25 µs typical, and de-energizing outputs average 50 µs typical to prevent contact bounce in downstream loads. Current limiting circuitry trips at 1.5 A maximum to protect field wiring and quickly restores service once the fault is cleared. The passive wiring interface supports 30 m of unshielded I/O cabling, while the dual ZS2001 connectors separate sensor and actuator groups for structured installation.
