The EPP2038-0002 is a remote digital output module from Beckhoff that fits into the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. It links field devices directly to an EtherCAT P network, combining the 24 V supply and communication signals in one cable so controllers can actuate loads without a separate power line. Within an industrial automation cell, the unit provides protected, high-current switching points in a compact IP-rated housing, eliminating the need for cabinet-mounted output terminals. This arrangement reduces field wiring while allowing the module to be installed close to connected solenoids, indicators, and other loads.
Each channel delivers an output voltage of 24 V DC, and the module can source up to 2.0 A per channel so resistive, inductive, or lamp loads receive adequate drive current. With 8 individually switched outputs, the module provides granular control of multiple field devices from a single network connection. A switching time of 200 µs for on and off transitions minimizes the delay between a PLC command and the corresponding load response, supporting high-speed operating sequences. The enclosure has an IP65/IP66/IP67 rating, allowing it to be fastened directly to tooling or conveyor frames without an additional protective enclosure. Two M8 P-coded ports carry EtherCAT P, while four M12 sockets distribute signals to the connected loads. Integrated short-circuit and open-load diagnostics return status information to the controller, and the logic side draws only 100 mA from Us while Up requires 20 mA for the field supply.
The accepted trunk length between nodes reaches 30 m, allowing the module to be positioned at the end of long carrier arms or mobile gantries. For aggregate power planning, the output block is limited to 3.0 A total output current; demand above this limit is electronically restricted to help prevent bus voltage drops. Electronic protection responds when fault current approaches the 15 A short-circuit threshold, isolating the affected channel and reporting the error to the controller. The housing measures only 30 × 126 × 26.5 mm, allowing installation in areas with limited mounting space. Compact auxiliary outputs provide 0.5 A each and share a total auxiliary current allowance of 0.5 A. The load-independent design accepts resistive, inductive, or lamp characteristics without requiring parameter changes.
