Product Description:

The EPP1809-0021 is a distributed I/O module created by Beckhoff within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. The unit expands an EtherCAT segment with digital sensor lines while carrying both power and communication through the EtherCAT P architecture. Inside a single molded enclosure, it offers protected field connections so that automation controllers can read multiple on-machine switches or proximity sensors without a separate cabinet.

The module accepts 16 digital inputs through 16 × M8 sockets. Each channel meets the Type 3 input characteristic, so the circuitry is referenced to the sensor supply and is short-circuit-proof. Every point draws only 6 mA at 24 VDC, minimizing load on field wiring and keeping total input consumption well below the 0.5 A sensor budget. An internal 3.0 ms filter debounces the signals, delivering clean state changes to the controller without software delays. Communication and power enter through two EtherCAT P ports implemented as 2 × M8, 4-pin, P-coded red sockets, which support in-line topology. The housing measures 60 mm wide and 126 mm high, allowing mounting on door frames, tooling plates, or conveyor rails where clearance is restricted.

The internal sensor bus supplies 24 VDC at up to 0.5 A, covering the cumulative current drawn by all connected sensors. Logic circuits use Us, a 24 VDC nominal line that draws 100 mA, and the permitted sum current on this rail is 3 A, leaving headroom for adjacent modules. The Up rail can forward 3 A downstream, so actuators or additional box modules receive power without separate feeders. Encapsulated in PA6 polyamide, the device is only 26.5 mm deep, enabling installation in narrow machine grooves while shielding the electronics from splashed fluids. These electrical budgets and compact dimensions help keep wiring bundles small while still supporting high sensor counts.
