Product Description:
The EPP1018-0001 is an eight-channel digital input module from Beckhoff produced within the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. Designed for decentralized machine wiring, the unit collects binary sensor signals and forwards them on the EtherCAT P network where supply and communication share a single cable. In an automation cell it serves as a compact IP-rated block that mounts directly on tooling or frames, reducing cabinet space while maintaining deterministic I/O timing.
Its compact footprint of 30 x 126 x 26.5 mm fits on narrow machine profiles, and the PA6 polyamide housing withstands oils and vibration. System power and fieldbus enter through the EtherCAT P trunk via a 2 x M8 Socket coded P for combined 24 V and data. Sensors connect on the opposite face with a bank of 8 x M8 Socket ports that correspond to the module’s input count of eight. Each channel draws only 6 mA at the 24 V sensor supply and is conditioned by a 10 µs digital filter to suppress switch bounce. The channels follow input type 3 of EN 61131-2, so they accept sourcing or sinking devices while guaranteeing the required threshold and hysteresis levels.
The internal supply for connected sensors is limited to 0.5 A in total, and overload protection disconnects the output if that level is exceeded. Logic electronics consume just 100 mA from the separate Us power rail, keeping thermal rise low inside sealed installations. Both Up and Us rails operate at a nominal 24 VDC, while the aggregate current that may be sourced through each rail is 3 A under continuous conditions. With a molded seal and fully potted circuitry, the module achieves ingress protection ratings of IP65/IP66/IP67, permitting direct mounting in wash-down, dust, or splash zones without additional enclosures.
