The EPP1004-0061 is a four-channel digital input module manufactured by Beckhoff for the EPP EtherCAT P Box Modules series. It brings 24 V field signals onto the EtherCAT P trunk, combining data exchange and power on one cable so cabinet space and wiring effort are reduced. Designed for distributed mounting directly on machinery, the device supplies sensors, receives their status, and forwards the information to the controller without additional junction boxes or power feeds. Because it mounts directly on the machine, short sensor leads can be used to keep local wiring neat around conveyors, gantries, and other moving equipment.
Compact mechanics support this goal: the enclosure depth is only 22 mm, the width is 30 mm, and the height is 86 mm, letting the module fit beside actuators on narrow aluminum profiles. Even with the metal housing, it weighs just 95 g, minimizing load on moving carriages. Network continuation uses a single EtherCAT P in-and-out interface specified as 2 × M8 sockets, 4-pin, P-coded, red, which carries both Us logic voltage and Up load voltage downline. Four sensor plugs are provided on the front through 4 × M8 sockets, and the sensors receive a steady 24 VDC supply. Its slim form also leaves room for neighboring pneumatic fittings and cable routes on compact machine frames.
The electrical section accepts four inputs that meet Type 3 requirements while remaining Type 1 compatible. Each channel draws only 6 mA at 24 VDC and is debounced by a configurable hardware filter fixed at 3.0 ms, reducing false transitions from mechanical contacts. A shared sensor supply delivers up to 0.5 A at 24 VDC, which is adequate for typical proximity switches. The module itself loads the Us logic rail with 100 mA, while the Up rail draws no current when the inputs are unloaded. Up and Us nominal voltages are both 24 VDC, so the unit fits common industrial control power systems without requiring a separate auxiliary supply.
