The EL9540 is a power supply terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It inserts into the I/O segment to feed peripheral sensors and actuators with a stabilized DC source while maintaining electrical separation from the E-bus logic. By combining field supply and monitoring in a single 12 mm-wide slice, the terminal simplifies distributed control cabinet layouts in industrial automation lines. Its narrow form factor also helps when many terminals must be installed in a limited amount of cabinet space.

This module accepts a nominal system voltage of 24 V and delivers it to downstream terminals through two additional power contacts molded into the housing. An isolation rating of 500 V is provided between the E-bus and field side, helping protect the controller from transients on external wiring. Field loads can draw up to 10 A continuously, and the current path bypasses the internal communication tracks to support that load without stressing the E-bus. The housing has a protection rating of IP20, so the module is intended for installation inside closed enclosures. A filtered supply path is provided only on the field side, which helps keep switching noise from coupling back onto the EtherCAT backbone.

Mechanical integration uses a 35 mm DIN rail profile, and the device permits a variable installation position when panel space requires horizontal or inverted mounting. For functional grounding, a dedicated PE contact is molded beside the supply pins to maintain low-impedance protective earth continuity along the terminal row. The unit also supports side mounting with power feed, so assemblies that pivot or hinge can remain connected without a separate power jumper. This arrangement is useful where moving sections of a machine still need uninterrupted field power.
