The EL9221-6000 EtherCAT protection terminal from the Beckhoff company utilizes Ethercat to allow high-speed data communication between devices with accurate timing. Beckhoff is recognized in the automation industry for its PC-based control systems.

The EL9221-6000 protection terminal is an electronic circuit protection module developed for 24 Volts DC control systems. It provides circuit interruption and fault management services suitable for industrial automation panels. Due to proper residual energy management before full circuit disconnection at a minimum of 10 seconds after output switch-off, the hold time after output switch-off is described. This timing is what avoids unintended resets or interruptions of systems that require a controlled shutdown sequence of events. This enables preventive action ahead of time preventive action through upstream control systems when an overload scenario occurs. The integrated fail-safe is provided at 6A with time-lag (T) characteristics to provide overcurrent protection while passing short harmless inrush currents without shutting down. When the supply voltage reaches 32V DC (overvoltage), overvoltage protection activates to protect sensitive downstream equipment from damage due to excessive input voltage.

The EL9221-6000 EtherCAT terminal consumes current from the E-bus which is approximately 80 mA and works smoothly without disturbing its functioning. The isolation of 500V is provided between the E-bus and the voltage circuits. There is additional output via a power contact to allow parallel power distribution. It has an LED button for status indication and reset. It is intended for installation in conventional 35mm DIN rails with standard EN 60715 complete with a lockable installation for firm mounting. Side-by-side mounting is achieved through a double-slot and key connection enabling easy mechanical alignment and electrical linking of adjacent modules.
