Product Description:
The EL9181 is a potential distribution terminal manufactured by Beckhoff and supplied within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. In an automation cabinet, it forms an interface between the system power supply and downstream I/O segments, passing EtherCAT E-bus signals and auxiliary voltages through its compact housing to simplify wiring and segmentation. The base fits a 35 mm mounting rail, providing mechanical compatibility with standard EN 60715 profiles commonly used in industrial control cabinets.
The terminal body is only 12 mm wide, so a high number of distribution points can be placed on a DIN rail without consuming excess space. Internal insulation is rated for 500 V, allowing the module to separate control and supply circuits safely within the same assembly. Its copper conductors support a continuous load of 10 A per power contact while accepting network potentials up to 60 VDC. Direct plug-in spring contacts accept solid wires without ferrules, reducing the number of preparation steps needed before conductors are inserted. The terminal can be installed in any position, allowing its orientation to suit the available cabinet space and cable routing.
The terminal supports a maximum relative humidity of 95% without condensation, making it suitable for humid production areas when installed inside an appropriate enclosure. Its IP20 ingress protection guards against accidental contact with hazardous internal parts and the entry of larger solid objects. Each potential has 8 internally bridged connection points, and two separate potentials allow mixed voltage groups to be wired on the same terminal slice. Sixteen screwless terminal points are provided in total, and the distribution element occupies 0 bits in the process image because it does not carry user data. The terminal includes an E-bus feedthrough and a power contact feedthrough, but it does not have a protective earth contact.
