Product Description:
Beckhoff's EL7342-0000 is a motor output terminal in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The module mounts on a DIN rail alongside other terminals and provides two H-bridge stages for brushed DC motors used in conveyors, grippers, or indexing mechanisms in industrial automation. Its function is to convert EtherCAT process data into controlled voltage and monitor the related encoder channels so motion tasks can be handled directly at the I/O level.
The electronics within the terminal are supplied from the system rail at 24 V DC, which isolates the logic from the motor power contacts. Each H-bridge can deliver up to 3.5 A per channel to a brushed DC inductive load, which is sufficient for many small gear motors. With 2 independent channels, a single terminal can run both axes at the same time while drawing 140 mA from the E-bus and 70 mA through the power contacts. Position feedback is accepted as a single-ended encoder signal, and the terminal can count up to 400,000 increments per second without missing pulses at high shaft speeds. Output current is regulated in discrete steps from a digital-to-analog stage with 10-bit maximum resolution, which supports smooth torque control during acceleration and braking. Individual channel wiring includes one motor pair, one incremental encoder, and an optional limit switch.
When the optional ZB8610 supply booster is installed, the continuous drive capability increases to 6.5 A per channel for higher-inertia loads. During velocity mode, the terminal computes speed internally with 16-bit maximum granularity, allowing fine closed-loop adjustment from the PLC. The copper power path can carry up to 10 A, so adjacent terminals in the block can share a common feed without separate wiring. An enclosure rating of IP20 means the unit is finger-safe but intended for installation inside a protected control cabinet.
