The EL6731-0010 is a fieldbus interface terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The component plugs into a standard EtherCAT node and serves as a bridge to PROFIBUS networks used on factory machinery. Acting as a slave interface, it forwards cyclic process data and acyclic parameter data to a PROFIBUS master, enabling controllers on EtherCAT to communicate with drives, sensors, and distributed I/O that remain on existing PROFIBUS wiring. By placing protocol conversion in a 12 mm housing, the terminal conserves cabinet space and supports mixed-bus layouts in packaging lines, material-handling systems, and process skids.

Parameterization of the terminal is carried out with TwinCAT System Manager, where the station address, baud rate, and advanced diagnostics are configured. A single fieldbus channel inside the device supports PROFIBUS DP, DP-V1, DP-V2, and PROFIBUS MC, giving it compatibility with both classic cyclic telegrams and motion-control extensions. Data exchange occurs at rates up to 12 MBit/s, matching the highest speed used on PROFIBUS copper segments. Physical connection is provided through a D-Sub socket, and the integrated 9-pin layout follows the IEC 61158 pin assignment. Front-panel status LEDs indicate run, error, and watchdog states so bus status can be checked directly at the terminal.

The module snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and can be mounted horizontally or vertically to fit varying cabinet layouts. Its molded housing carries an IP20 rating, so it is intended for installation in protected enclosures without additional gaskets. Operation remains stable in ambient humidity up to 95% RH under non-condensing conditions, and the mechanics withstand vibration and shock levels in EN 60068-2-6 and EN 60068-2-27 that are common on presses or pick-and-place gantries. Logic power is supplied through the EtherCAT backplane via the E-Bus, so no local 24 V wiring is required.
