Beckhoff engineered this EtherCAT Terminal EL6720 which is used for fieldbus integration. There are 2 channels with this unit to increase network branching options in doubles. It meets PROFIBUS standard IEC 61158 and EN 50170, so it will work with industrial fieldbus masters. The component uses PROFIBUS-DP slave that connects PROFIBUS and EtherCAT interface systems in a smooth manner. With direct connections through the terminal and without external connectors, it eliminates wiring options.
This latest terminal handles baud rates from 9.6 kbaud to 12 Mbaud, adapting to legacy and high-speed PROFIBUS networks. It maps process image widths of 244 bytes input and 244 bytes output which accommodates extensive I/O data per cycle. The device uses 120 mA at 3.3 V input current which minimizes upstream power demands. It also offers galvanic isolation between PROFIBUS and EtherCAT interfaces to prevent ground-loop interference. The mounting options include the standard DIN rails which streamlines panel assembly. It runs between 0 °C and +55 °C operating temperature which maintains reliability and durability. It tolerates –25 °C to +85 °C in storage and protect modules during shipment process. The model configures bit widths in TwinCAT, thus adapts to application-specific data formats.
It couples to EtherCAT as the bus coupler and preserves direct communication. It supports up to 125 PROFIBUS stations for scaling larger device networks. This top-notch terminal provides diagnostic LEDs for immediate link, activity, and error feedback options. It forwards data via EtherCAT protocol-based data forwarding which maintains cycle determinism. It handles three cyclic process data communication channels that allows simultaneous live data streams.
