Product Description:
The EL6224-1007 is an IO-Link master terminal designed by Beckhoff for EtherCAT-based modular I/O stations as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The unit allows direct integration of IO-Link sensors and actuators on the fieldbus without additional gateways. Within an industrial automation cell, the terminal exchanges cyclic process data and acyclic parameter information, which helps streamline device integration and reduce wiring complexity. It plugs into the standard terminal block row and adds minimal width to the station.
In operation, the terminal draws an E-bus current of 120 mA for internal logic, while connected devices receive up to 500 mA each on the IO-Link ports through the system’s 24 V DC field power rail. Communication speed is selectable at 4.8/38.4/230.4 kbaud, allowing the master to match the requirements of different sensors and actuators. Process and auxiliary conductors follow a 3-wire topology, which carries power and bidirectional serial data on one line. Despite supporting these functions, the module has a depth of only 68 mm, so it fits inside shallow control enclosures. The unit complies with IO-Link V1.1, which supports parameter storage and automatic device identification.
The terminal is sized for dense terminal stacks and standard control-cabinet installation. A width of 12 mm and height of 100 mm support compact layouts, while the polycarbonate shell and IP20 rating protect the electronics against finger contact and settled dust inside the cabinet. The power contacts can carry 10 A max., allowing downstream terminals with higher loads to share the same supply. Sensor cables may extend 20 m max. from the port without repeaters, provided conductor resistance stays within the allowed range. The terminal provides 4 dedicated IO-Link ports, allowing short-stroke cylinders, photoelectric switches, or intelligent valves to be grouped on a single node without exceeding the allotted current per port.
