Product Description:
The EL6080-0000 is a nonvolatile memory terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Installed on a DIN rail beside I/O and drive modules, the device provides local storage for parameters, recipe data, or event logs that must remain available after power cycling in an automation cell. By acting as an EtherCAT slave, the module exchanges data blocks with the controller while following the network process data protocol, so machines can retain critical information without adding a separate computer or a battery-backed memory card. This allows the controller to save retained values close to the I/O layer, which is useful where only a compact terminal stack is available.
Inside the terminal, a total capacity of 131072 bytes is available, which is the maximum space the PLC can use for persistent information. Any single data object can occupy up to 8190 bytes, so larger parameter sets must be divided into smaller elements when they exceed that limit. The terminal can maintain as many as 127 distinct memory objects at one time, supporting segmented recipes or time-stamped records. During operation, the EtherCAT master can exchange up to 1280 bytes per cycle with the terminal. One physical channel handles all transfers, and an additional 2000-byte segment is reserved for administrative data that the user program cannot overwrite. This arrangement lets the controller organize retained values into separate records instead of one unbroken block.
Power for the electronics is supplied via the E-bus, eliminating separate wiring and ensuring that the module uses NOVRAM cells for retained storage. The terminal uses 4 Sync Managers to coordinate buffer access between mailbox transfers and real-time process data. The housing is rated to IP20, mounts directly on a 35 mm rail, and may be oriented in any position. The device supports two defined access methods and includes two receive and three transmit PDO entries. It operates without distributed clock functionality.
