The EL6070-1863 is an EtherCAT terminal manufactured by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The device is intended for machine-mounted automation nodes where fieldbus communication, data buffering, and auxiliary services are added in single-slot increments. By integrating directly on the EtherCAT backplane, it gives the controller fast access to nonvolatile memory and places application resources where they are needed in distributed control architectures. This arrangement is useful when persistent application data must remain with the terminal station after power cycles.

Physically, the terminal occupies only 12 mm in panel width, leaves a profile depth of 68 mm, and stands 100 mm high, so it fits inside shallow cabinets while clearing standard wiring ducts. A dedicated 1 MByte local memory segment on the electronics board lets the PLC store license codes, parameters, or diagnostics without external media. The module draws about 120 mA of E-bus current, which the upstream coupler must support when several terminals share the same power rail. All electronic power is supplied through the E-bus itself, eliminating separate auxiliary wiring and keeping the terminal row compact.

For load distribution, the power contacts can carry up to 10 A, allowing the terminal row to pass higher control voltages or sensor supplies without extra feed modules. The enclosure is molded from polycarbonate, which provides electrical insulation while keeping weight low, and the assembly meets the IP20 protection rating for use in properly enclosed cabinets. It snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and the installation position is variable, so the module can be mounted to suit different cabinet layouts. The terminal also has enhanced load capability, so its contacts tolerate higher thermal stress during dense stacking without changing the module size or mounting method.
