The EL6070-1814 is an EtherCAT terminal produced by Beckhoff in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Designed for distributed I/O lines, the unit combines data buffering with fieldbus routing so that a controller can retain parameters inside the terminal while still passing power and signals along the bus. Within an automation cabinet, it occupies one slot and interacts with neighboring modules exclusively through the integrated E-Bus contacts. Because adjacent terminals couple through the backplane instead of external jumpers, the assembly remains compact and the signal path between modules stays direct.

Its physical profile has a width of 12 mm, a height of 100 mm, and a depth of 68 mm, allowing dense side-by-side placement on terminal rows. Inside the housing, Beckhoff provides 1 MByte of local memory that is available to store application data within the node. Power can be daisy-chained through the internal copper conductors up to 10 A so that downstream terminals receive the same supply without extra wiring. No distributed clocks are implemented, so the device relies on upstream synchronization rather than generating its own time base. The wiring method uses a spring clamp that is released or secured by a screwdriver, and the installation position can be varied because the internal electronics are not orientation-sensitive.

The enclosure is molded from polycarbonate and carries an IP20 rating, so it must be mounted in a cabinet that provides additional protection. Power and communication arrive through the E-Bus backplane, which keeps the terminal free of separate field wiring connections on the housing. The module snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail with no additional fasteners, which supports compact installation and secure positioning within a terminal assembly. This layout also keeps front access clear when adjacent terminals are installed closely together.
