Product Description:

The EL6070-1706 is a license-capable EtherCAT terminal manufactured by Beckhoff as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It functions as a compact license container installed directly in the I/O strand so that controllers on the same EtherCAT segment can access software permissions without external hardware keys. Because the licensing function stays inside the terminal row, authorization data remains with the control hardware and does not depend on a separate dongle or standalone memory device. The device uses the typical terminal footprint, allowing dense placement on standard DIN rails in industrial automation cells that need integrated licensing.

This terminal receives its electronics power via the E-Bus, eliminating a separate supply lead and keeping wiring straightforward across the terminal row. A local buffer of 1 MByte stores the fixed license set referenced by TwinCAT projects, so the required permissions are available directly from the terminal during operation. Protection class IP20 provides finger-safe touch protection but requires installation inside a closed control enclosure. The housing stands 100 mm tall yet remains only 12 mm wide, preserving horizontal space for additional I/O. Its polycarbonate shell provides mechanical strength and electrical insulation, and the module does not use distributed-clock functions because precise time stamping is unnecessary for license data handling.

The terminal can operate at temperatures up to +60 °C and down to -25 °C, while storage limits extend further to +85 °C and -40 °C so the memory contents remain intact during transport. A non-condensing relative humidity limit of 95% accommodates humid plant areas without degrading the electronics. The terminal clips onto a 35 mm top-hat rail, and an internal spring maintains pressure against vibration, keeping the polycarbonate body aligned with neighboring EL modules. This mounting method helps the unit stay seated in the I/O assembly when the machine is exposed to routine panel vibration and normal cabinet movement.
