Beckhoff’s EL6070-1648 is a functional terminal in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series that handles license storage and system data inside decentralized control cabinets. The module is intended for integration alongside I/O slices, where it provides non-volatile memory so automation controllers can retrieve fixed software licenses during power-up. This approach keeps license information within the EtherCAT topology instead of storing it in a separate external device. It is suited for applications that need persistent license availability at the terminal level during normal machine startup.

With a compact profile of 12 mm in width, 68 mm in depth, and 100 mm in height, the terminal occupies very little rail space while still leaving clearance for adjacent modules. The housing is rated IP20, which means it is touch-safe and intended for installation inside a closed control enclosure rather than in wet or exposed areas. Mechanical mounting is done on a standard 35 mm DIN rail, so the terminal clips into the same support hardware used by other Beckhoff slices. Its narrow format helps when many EtherCAT terminals must be arranged side by side in a limited cabinet section.

The enclosure is made of Polycarbonate, which provides electrical insulation and good durability for industrial cabinet use. Inside the housing, a dedicated flash area of 1 MByte stores linked licenses and related local data so that the information remains available after power cycling. Electronic power is supplied Via E-Bus, so the module does not need a separate power connection for its own internal operation. The internal power path can carry up to 10 A through the power contacts to downstream terminals, allowing the terminal stack to pass supply current along the station.
