Beckhoff manufactures the EL6070-1623 as part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The product is an I/O expansion terminal that supplies onboard memory to an EtherCAT station, letting controllers retain small data sets and configuration parameters directly on the DIN rail without external storage modules. In industrial automation, this function minimizes cabinet wiring and shortens cycle times by placing application data inside the fieldbus segment. Local storage at the terminal is useful when small parameter sets or process values need to remain available near the I/O node.

The housing is 100 mm tall, 12 mm wide, and 68 mm deep, so it occupies a single slot while fitting into tight control enclosures. A metal foot clamps onto a 35 mm mounting rail, and protection is rated at IP20, which means uninsulated conductors must stay inside the cabinet. Power for the electronics arrives via the E-Bus, eliminating a separate supply lead. The EtherCAT backplane uses spring contacts for the power line, and the double slot-and-key side profile supports secure side-by-side mounting. Its narrow body also supports dense terminal rows in compact control cabinets. Wiring to the front terminals uses a spring-actuation method that opens with a standard screwdriver, so no special insertion tool is required.

The polycarbonate enclosure provides impact resistance in a lightweight form, and the board carries 1 MByte of local memory for user data. Up to 10 A can pass through the power contacts to downstream modules without derating. Conductors are inserted with spring actuation by screwdriver, which provides vibration-resistant clamping without screw retightening. The enclosure material also helps keep the terminal light for compact DIN-rail assemblies. The terminal can be mounted horizontally or vertically as space requires.
