The EL6070-1533 is a license management EtherCAT terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Within an automation line, the unit functions as a hardware dongle that stores encrypted license information so that TwinCAT software components can be unlocked directly through the fieldbus. The device uses the familiar 12 mm wide I/O form factor, allowing it to sit between standard signal terminals on the same DIN rail and tie software privileges to a specific machine installation without extra wiring.

Its compact housing with signal LEDs provides immediate visual feedback, and the status lights show whether licenses are valid and whether communication over the EtherCAT backplane is active. Electrical load on the system bus remains low because the terminal draws only 120 mA from the E-bus, which helps prevent voltage sag when many nodes are present. Inside the module, 1 MByte of local memory holds the keyed software options, and the EEPROM-based storage keeps that data through power cycles. Mechanical integration is straightforward because the enclosure snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail, and the use of polycarbonate for the housing resists common oils and cleaning agents found in control cabinets.

The power contacts that bridge through the terminal are rated for 10 A, so higher-current neighboring modules can share the same feed without separate wiring.
