Product Description:
The EL6001 is a serial interface terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. This compact plug-in component gives an EtherCAT I/O station a single asynchronous communication channel so PLCs can exchange point-to-point data with auxiliary drives, barcode scanners, or controllers in automated equipment. Its role is to translate field-level messages into the internal E-Bus format used by the modular rack, allowing serial devices to communicate through the EtherCAT system without a separate gateway.
For reliable operation, the module draws 120 mA from the E-Bus supply and complies with the electrical requirements of CCITT V.28 / DIN 66 259-1. The software preset is 9600 baud, paired with a default frame of 8 data bits, no parity, and 1 stop bit, so compatible devices can communicate without manual changes to the initial serial settings. Data flow operates in full-duplex mode, and the port provides separate TxD and RxD lines that match the applicable interface requirements. Communication integrity is supported by bit distortion below 3%, helping preserve character edges over longer cable runs. The integrated serial circuitry provides the required physical-layer conversion without an external converter.
The terminal provides RS-232 signaling through one hardware channel, enabling a single point-to-point connection. A galvanic isolation barrier rated at 500 V between the E-Bus and serial circuitry helps protect higher-level modules from field-side electrical surges. For burst transfers, the integrated buffer stores 864 bytes, reducing the effect of polling jitter on the timing of a connected device. Cables can extend up to 15 m while remaining within the permitted signal range, which provides flexibility when routing the connection inside industrial equipment. The enclosure has an IP20 rating, so the terminal is intended for installation inside a closed control cabinet where it is protected from dust and moisture exposure. Its housing snaps onto a 35 mm mounting rail alongside other EtherCAT terminals, preserving the compact width and modular arrangement of the I/O station.
