Product Description:
EL5122 is an EtherCAT terminal with 2-channel encoder inputs. It works with incremental encoders. An incremental encoder is sensor used to measure the position, speed, or direction of motion. It generates a series of pulses as it moves, which can be counted to determine how far the object has traveled from a known position. High-performance encoders that provide single-ended signals can be connected to the terminal. Integrated pull-up resistors enable easy open collector evaluation without the need for external circuits. Encoder supply at 5/12/24 Volts can be directly connected through the terminal connection points. Special features supported by the EL5122 include built-in period and frequency measurement, synchronous position value reading, optional up/down counter, and set/save/lock counter. The terminal can also be used for the measurement of velocity, frequency or period with 10 nanosecond resolution.
Additional inputs on the terminal include gate/latch per channel. The default encoder operating voltage is 5 Volts DC, 12 Volts DC and 24 Volts DC. The counter default resolution is 32 bits and can be switched to 16 bits. Specifications for the quadrature decoder include 4-fold evaluation, which can be switched to 2-fold or 1-fold. Support for distributed clocks is available on the EtherCAT terminal. Current consumption at the power contacts is 10 milliamps plus the load current. Current drawn by the E-bus on the terminal is typically 190 milliamps. Around 500 Volts of isolation is provided by the E-bus and field potential. Shipping weight of the unit is approximately 50 grams. The recommended temperatures for storage and operation are -25 to 85 and 0 to 55 degrees Celsius. With an IP20 rated housing, the terminal can be installed in various positions.
