Product Description:
The high speed single channel encoder interface terminal Beckhoff EL5101 from family EL EtherCAT Terminals is used for the real time positioning and motion control applications. It is designed to interface with incremental encoders and supports A, B and C signals in differential (RS422) and single ended (TTL) formats for a variety of encoder types. The EL5101 core includes a switchable 16/32-bit counter and up to 4 million increments per second with 4-fold evaluation (1 MHz signal with 4 counters). The high speed processing provides this unit as a great tool for dynamic positioning systems where timing and accuracy are important. Quadrature decoding with 1/256 bit micro increment resolution is supported by the terminal and it is helpful in providing precise motion feedback in automation systems.
This product also offers advanced functions like wire breakage detection, frequency and period measurement, timestamping, and edge filtering for more diagnostic and control capabilities. It has increased versatility in complex control schemes as it accepts further inputs for status and gate/latch functions. It obtains its power supply from the 24 V DC power contacts provided at the 24 V DC input panel and then outputs 5 V DC, up to 0.5 A, which is generally adequate for most standard encoders.
The EL5101 weighs approximately 100 grams and is small in size, with operating temperatures from -25C to +60C. It integrates seamlessly into EtherCAT systems, supporting distributed clocks to ensure precise synchronization with other modules in high-performance automation networks. The high input frequency capability and features of the EL5101 makes it suitable for use in applications such as CNC machines, robots, servo drive systems and other applications requiring accurate position tracking and real time control.
