Beckhoff EL5002 is the dual channel encoder interface terminal for high speed and high precision position data acquisition in EtherCAT based automation systems. The EL5002 is part of the EL EtherCAT Terminals> series, and is designed particularly well for integrating incremental encoders by means of RS422 differential signals (D+, D degrees C^', Cl+, Cl degrees C^'), which are common in many industrial motion control applications.

The EL5002 has a variable data transfer rate of up to 1 MHz (default 250 kHz) to provide the flexibility that is required for most encoder types and system requirements. Serial inputs of 32 bits and above are supported by the module for greater adaptability and compatibility. Its distributed clock functionality provides deterministic timing and control for precise synchronized real time measured values across the complete EtherCAT network.

The EL5002 operates from a 24 V DC power supply via power contacts and has low power consumption (typically 130 mA) when connected to the Ebus whilst maintaining a compact footprint for space sensitive installations. It has operating temperature limits (ranging from -25 C to +60 C) with storage (from -40 C to +85 C), making this an extremely sturdy and rugged terminal that can satisfy even the harshest of industrial environments.

Compliance with major international safety standards such as CE, CCC, UL, ATEX and IECEx are also part of the module. The explosion protection certification (ATEX II 3 G Ex ec IIC T4 Gc and IECEx Ex ec IIC T4 Gc) makes it suitable for use in potentially explosive atmospheres including oil and gas; chemical processing and mining. The Beckhoff EL5002 provides a highly capable solution for precision motion feedback in advanced automation systems with high speed performance, flexible encoder compatibility, and rugged industrial reliability.
