The EL4132 is an analog output module produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The terminal converts digital setpoints from a controller into two differential voltage signals for field devices, making it a common component in distributed I/O stations for industrial automation. By mounting alongside other EtherCAT nodes, it delivers deterministic updates while occupying only a small amount of DIN-rail space. It is suited for tasks such as valve control, servo biasing, or sensor excitation that require precision voltage generation.

Each of the terminal’s two analog channels is driven directly from the internal E-Bus, so no external supply lines are required. The module provides ±10 V full-scale swing per channel and updates both outputs in a simultaneous fashion, which helps prevent phase error between coordinated axes. Data from the controller is exchanged as a 2-channel image of 16-bit values, matching the converter resolution and allowing fine voltage increments of roughly 0.3 mV. Because the reference is single-ended, signal ground is common to the backplane, and short-circuit-proof output stages protect the bus if wiring faults occur.

The terminal snaps onto a 35 mm DIN rail and carries the EtherCAT earth reference through metal foot contacts. For proper accuracy, the connected device must present a load of more than 5 kΩ, after which the integrated converter keeps linearity and gain deviation within ±0.1% over the 0 °C to 55 °C operating range. Shield current is routed through a dedicated path that can sink up to 100 mA, while the signal ground path is rated for 40 mA, which helps prevent common-mode buildup on long cable runs. The plastic housing and internal conformal layout give the module an IP20 protection rating, permitting installation inside control cabinets without additional sealing.
