Product Description:
The EL4122 is an analog output terminal produced by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. It adds current-output channels to an EtherCAT I/O station so that a PLC can deliver reference signals to drives, power supplies, or instrumentation without separate signal-generation hardware. Installed on a DIN rail, the terminal provides compact signal generation synchronized by EtherCAT distributed clocks, supporting precise setpoint delivery in industrial automation applications.
The terminal provides 2 single-ended output channels that share a common ground reference, and each channel supports a resistive burden of less than 500 Ω. The conversion depth is 16 bits, including sign, while the process image presents the values as 2 × 16-bit data for direct mapping to control variables. The terminal uses simultaneous updates, allowing both channels to change during the same cycle and preventing phase skew in multi-axis or multi-loop control tasks. Operating power for the electronics is supplied through the E-Bus backplane, while field-side output power is supplied through the power contacts. This split-supply arrangement separates the sensitive logic circuitry from field load currents and helps preserve stable communication on the backplane.
The power contacts can carry up to 4 A, while the current consumption per channel is 15 mA plus the load current, allowing the cabinet power supply to be sized according to the connected loads. A shield conductor can discharge interference currents of up to 100 mA, which helps maintain signal integrity when long cables pass near motors, contactors, or other sources of electrical noise. The housing has an IP20 protection rating, making it suitable for installation inside a control cabinet while permitting different mounting positions on the rail. No-tool pluggable connections simplify conductor insertion and removal in compact machine control panels. The narrow terminal format also allows the output channels to be installed beside other EtherCAT I/O functions without requiring a separate analog interface assembly.
