Product Description:
The EL4102 is an analog output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. As a remote I/O module, it converts digital process data from the EtherCAT bus into standardized voltage signals that drive actuators, control valves, or other voltage-controlled devices on the machine level. Integration at the terminal slice allows distributed analog functionality without requiring a separate controller or extensive return wiring to the main cabinet.
It provides 2 independent, single-ended channels, and each channel can source voltages from 0 V up to +10 V. Conversion accuracy is based on a resolution of 16 bits, which includes sign handling and allows fine voltage steps across the range. The channels update simultaneously, which prevents phase shift when both outputs must change at the same instant. Inside the control image, the module uses 2 × 16-bit data words, so each channel maps to one word that the PLC writes cyclically. These outputs share the system's E-bus for both electronics and load power, so no external field supply is required. A single-ended ground reference simplifies wiring to devices that expect a common return conductor, and the 0 V lower limit protects equipment that cannot accept negative voltages.
The housing snaps onto a DIN rail that is 35 mm wide, keeping the terminal aligned with other EtherCAT slices while providing the required internal ground path. With an IP20 enclosure, the electronics are shielded from finger contact and must be installed inside a control cabinet. Safe operation is specified between -25 °C and +60 °C, supporting cold-start conditions as well as elevated enclosure temperatures. Output stages remain operational even if a load is accidentally shorted because they are declared short-circuit proof.
