The EL4038-0000 is an analog output terminal manufactured by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Installed on a standard EtherCAT I/O station, it converts digital process data into eight independent voltage channels so that PLCs can actuate drives, valves, or transducers with configurable setpoints. By integrating directly on the EtherCAT backplane, the module reduces wiring in compact control cabinets and keeps the signal path inside the deterministic real-time fieldbus.

This terminal maps an 8 x 16-bit AO output image to the controller, and each channel is converted with a 12-bit digital-to-analog stage for fine voltage resolution. The output stage is powered by a separate 24 VDC field supply, allowing higher load currents without stressing the backplane. Logic electronics are fed from the E-Bus, and the module draws only 100 mA, so many terminals can be lined up without overloading the coupler.
