Product Description:

The Beckhoff EL4034 is an analog output terminal. It belongs to the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. The module is used in applications pertaining to industrial automation.

The EL4034 output terminal can reliably operate in environments ranging from -25°C to +60°C. It supports synchronization through distributed clocks which allow precise timing in automation networks like EtherCAT. The maximum deviation from the expected output is less than 0.1% of the full-scale signal. There's isolation up to 500 V between the communication bus (E-bus) and the analog output circuitry to prevent noise or faults from spreading. The module each analog output channel updates roughly every 250 microseconds which suggests how fast the digital signal is converted to analog. The terminal outputs analog voltage signals in the range of -10 to +10 volts. All of its 4 analog output channels are represented in the process image by a 16 bit value. It comes with four independent analog output channels. The module meets European EMC standards for immunity to interference and limiting emissions which is important for stable operation in industrial settings. The module can tolerate high humidity (up to 95%) as long as condensation doesn’t occur.

The EL4034 output terminal internal timing precision for synchronization is much less than 1 microsecond which is excellent for time critical applications. Its power contacts consume about 40 milliamps during typical operation. It is featured with a digital to analog converter which has 12 bit resolutions and gives 4096 discrete steps for voltage output that allows for smooth and precise control. It is designed to drive loads greater than 5 kilo-ohms and is protected against damage from accidental short circuits. When it is not in use it can be stored in an environment with temperature ranges between -40…+85°C.

Frequently Asked Questions about EL4034:

Q: Why is the 500 V electrical isolation important in the EL4034 terminal?

A: It protects the communication bus and signal circuits from electrical interference and potential faults. This ensures stable performance in harsh industrial environments.

Q: How does the << 1 µs distributed clock precision improve EL4034's performance?

A: It enables highly synchronized analog signal output, critical for coordinated motion and precise process control. The EL4034 ensures tight timing alignment in EtherCAT networks.

Q: What is the purpose of using a 12-bit resolution in the EL4034?

A: A 12-bit resolution allows 4096 discrete output steps for smooth voltage control. This improves accuracy in analog signal representation for sensitive applications.

Q: Why is a load > 5 kΩ required for EL4034 analog outputs?

A: High impedance ensures accurate voltage output without loading the signal source. It also prevents signal distortion in measurement and control loops.

Q: How does the optional watchdog with ramp function benefit the EL4034 terminal?

A: The watchdog ensures a defined fallback output during communication loss. The ramping feature allows smooth transitions, avoiding sudden signal jumps in processes.
