The Beckhoff EL4022-0000 is a type of terminal from the EL EtherCAT Terminal Series that has two channels. It is designed to output current in the range of 4-20 mA which is a standardized industrial control jet, and provides two analog outputs, each of 12 bits resolution, which is suitable for controlling devices, like actuators, Serial peripheral buses are often used for their communication. The EL4022-0000 has a double receive current control which is capable of supporting distributed clocks with a precision of 0.1 microseconds, ensuring accurate synchronization of time-sensitive transmissions over the EtherCAT network.

The output error of this terminal is rated to be less than one hundredth of a percent, referred to the full scale value; the current outputs were therefore very well controlled. This terminal is designed to work in an energy efficient manner that only draws fifty milliamps from the power contacts and 140 milliamps from the power bus. There are also two channels of sixteen bits analog output integrated with the terminal which can be used with EtherCAT systems.

One of the most important capabilities of the EL4022-0000 is the optional watchdog features enabling users to set predefined output values with ramp during communication loss. User sync can also be enabled to allow smooth running of Distributed Automation systems. This terminal works within the temperature range of -25 °C to +60 °C and with a storage temperature of up to – 40 degrees Celsius thus making it capable for harsh industrial environments. It also meets standards EN 61000-6-2 and EN 61000-6-4 for electromagnetic immunity and emission which helps in maintaining stable working conditions in noisy electrical environments.
