Product Description:

The EL3413/DB is a power-measurement terminal developed by Beckhoff for the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Mounted in line with digital and analog I/O, it captures three-phase electrical variables and streams the results through the E-bus so the controller can monitor energy flow, detect load symmetry, and log consumption in real time for industrial automation systems. As a single module, it replaces external transducers and reduces panel space.

The terminal digitizes each channel with a 16-bit converter, giving adequate granularity for efficiency studies. Three selectable current ranges of 0.1/1/5 A AC let the same hardware cover low standby loads and full-rated machinery currents, while internal shunts present less than 3 mΩ to the circuit so voltage drop is negligible. The terminal accepts line voltage up to 690 V AC 3~, enabling direct connection to high-power feeders in Overvoltage Category II environments. Samples are taken at 16,800 samples/s, a rate high enough to resolve individual half cycles and supply per-phase RMS, active, and reactive values to the bus. The device draws 160 mA from the E-bus and reports active power with 1% accuracy, allowing close comparison between measured and billed energy.

The voltage path is digitized down to 0.1 mV, and harmonic evaluation is supported up to the 21st order so power-factor correction equipment can be tuned from the same data set. Overall voltage and current deviations stay within 0.5% FSV, and the 1 MΩ input impedance on the voltage channels helps limit loading of control transformers. Four dedicated current inputs and three voltage taps share a single-ended ground reference, simplifying wiring in compact switchgear. The module remains within its thermal limits while evaluating power because its internal calculation engine runs without external cooling.
