The EL3403-0026 is a three-phase power measurement terminal produced by Beckhoff within the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. By inserting it on the EtherCAT I/O strand, the system can record line voltages and currents for each phase and forward the data to the controller in real time, allowing consumption tracking, condition monitoring, and closed-loop energy optimization in industrial automation networks. Its integrated metrology replaces external transducers and reduces panel space while still delivering synchronized bus data.

The terminal samples each phase in sync with the mains, and this mains-synchronous conversion time helps ensure every half-wave is captured without aliasing. Equally important, the data are transmitted on the bus with a net-synchronous update time, so the measurements line up with the distributed clocks of other EtherCAT devices. The analog measurement section includes 3 x current, 3 x voltage channels that feed a true RMS engine and can resolve signals down to 1 µA, 0.1 mV, 10 mW, enabling precise low-level profiling. Electrical limits permit direct connection up to 500 V AC 3~ and up to 1 A AC per channel, covering typical motor feeders without external transformers.

On the supply side, the terminal draws 120 mA typ. from the E-bus and can pass up to 10 A through its power contacts to downstream modules, so no additional feed segment is necessary for small load groups. The measurement chain maintains a combined accuracy of 0.5 % for voltage and current and 1 % for derived quantities, aided by a single-ended ground reference and simple 2-wire field wiring. A 62-byte process image for input and a 3-byte image for output transfer the raw values plus status bits to the PLC. The housing measures 12 x 100 x 68 mm, carries an IP20 rating, and slots into the standard DIN-rail carrier without tools.
