Product Description:
The EL3403-0010 is a power-measurement EtherCAT terminal produced by Beckhoff in the EL EtherCAT Terminals series. Installed beside standard I/O cards, it captures electrical parameters of three-phase supplies so that PLC programs can supervise energy use and detect abnormal loads. The module provides 3 current channels and 3 voltage channels, allowing simultaneous acquisition of each phase on a motor feeder or plant bus. By transferring computed values over EtherCAT, the terminal supplies deterministic, cycle-synchronous feedback that can be logged, displayed, or used for real-time control decisions. This arrangement is useful where controllers must track changing loads across all three phases without relying on a separate external analyzer.
In operation, the terminal accepts phase voltages up to 500 V AC 3~ and phase currents up to 5 A (AC). The low 7 mΩ current-path resistance minimizes power loss and allows installation behind standard current transformers. The voltage inputs have a 500 kΩ input impedance that avoids loading the circuit. Raw signals are digitized with a resolution of 0.1 mV on the voltage side and 5 µA on the current side, giving the controller fine-grained trend data. All six channels are sampled at 78,000 samples/s with a mains-synchronous conversion cycle, and the processed data are released on a net-synchronous update that aligns precisely with the fieldbus cycle.
Electrical isolation of 1,500 V between the measurement circuitry and the EtherCAT backplane safeguards adjacent modules. The housing carries an IP20 rating suited for mounting inside control cabinets. All channels share a single-ended ground reference, simplifying wiring in compact panels. Power quantities are calculated with the True RMS algorithm, producing accurate results even when voltage or current waveforms are distorted. Because each phase is acquired through simultaneous sampling, the phase relationships required for real-time active, reactive, and apparent power calculation are maintained without interpolation.
